The Republican state institution "National Center of Manuscripts and Rare Books" of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the National Center) was created by Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 31, 2017 No. 321. The grand opening of the institution took place on June 10, 2017 (as part of the International Exhibition "EXPO-2017").

Having a relatively small staff, it employs qualified specialists in their field. In particular, doctors of historical sciences, Arabic scholars, linguists of ancient languages, the best restoration specialists (studied in leading foreign centers). Today the Center has established itself well in the international arena. The center hosts a large number of scientific events aimed at preserving and promoting this industry (conferences, round tables, exhibitions, seminars, master classes, publication of materials, etc.).

Currently, the total number of books in the fund exceeds 9 thousand items. Of these, about 2000 copies are especially valuable books. More than 300 units of the fund are rare books in Arabic, Persian, Turkic Chagatai, ancient Uzbek, Tatar languages of thinkers, scientists and other authors, published in the 19th-20th centuries. In addition, there are books published at the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century in the same language, Latin script; works of Kazakh educators and scientists, works of Western and Russian researchers; statistical reviews from 1880 to 1916 for Akmola, Turgai, Syrdarya, Ural, Semipalatinsk, Semirechensk regions, which describe the development of agriculture, demography, livestock, and other areas; codes of laws of the Russian Empire, which were published under Peter I and Catherine II and were reissued in the 1830s; a collection of miniature books, as well as dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Work schedule on weekdays from 09.00 to 18.00 and the entire facility is closed on weekends and holidays.
