The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is a symbol of unity, friendship, peace, and cooperation on the land of Kazakhstan.
The project architect is the renowned British architect, Norman Robert Foster.
The idea to construct a Pyramid-shaped palace in the capital, where representatives of various nations and religions could gather to make decisions that would guide all humanity toward peace and goodwill, was proposed by the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2003 at the I Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana. The Head of State's initiative received strong support from the leaders of various confessions who had gathered from all corners of the world.
The Congress delegates, who reconvened in 2006 in the world's youngest capital, Astana, held their second meeting in the new, unique building – the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation.
The Pyramid's base measures 63x63 meters, and its height is 63 meters. The exterior of the building is covered with glass and stone panels that reflect the inner structure, while the apex of the Pyramid, the dome, is adorned with a stained-glass window by the famous artist Brian Clarke. This stained-glass piece is a true work of art, depicting 130 white doves symbolizing the various nationalities residing in the country.
The world star of classical music, Montserrat Caballé, performed at the grand opening ceremony of the new Palace.
The Palace's excursion service operates daily without days off. Guided tours are conducted in three languages: Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is a place where ideas of peace, unity, and progress converge under one shining dome. A must-visit!
