What to Expect
A walking tour followed by a ride on the automated driverless Tarlan Astana (LRT), connecting an ancient symbol of Kazakh statehood with the history of the country’s modern railways. The route passes through the Government Quarter and Kazakh Eli Square, by the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev Kazakh State Academic Music and Drama Theatre (visible from the train window, without getting off), and culminates in an immersive visit to one of Astana’s youngest and most high-tech museums — the Museum of Kazakhstan’s Railways at Nurly Zhol Station.

Program:
Meeting point at the Baiterek Monument — walking section along Akmeshіt Street, passing the National Archive and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Baiterek Station — ride on Tarlan Astana (LRT) without intermediate stops at Ministrlikter Üyi, Ulttyq Muzei, Teatr, Myñjyldyk Alleyasy and Jibek Joly stations — final stop at Nurly Zhol Station.
Final Stop — Museum of Kazakhstan’s Railways
Inside, you will find:
- 4 themed halls (“Turksib and Mukhametzhan Tynyshpayev,” “Evolution of Locomotives,” “Professions and Innovations,” and “History of Kazakhstan’s Railways”) and more than 250 exhibits, from archival documents and awards to vintage railway lanterns;
- authentic locomotives and railway cars, some of which visitors can board and explore the driver’s cabin — ChME3 and 2TEM10 shunting locomotives, a VL80 freight electric locomotive, a TEP70 passenger locomotive, and a new-generation CR200J railway car;
- a driver simulator and AR and VR zones where you can experience what it feels like to operate a train;
- a photo opportunity at Platform 9¾ — just like the wizards from the famous saga. While adults explore the exhibition, children can have fun in the dedicated play area.
A Gift Included with the Tour
A themed “Trans-Siberian Express” photo zone is included in the tour — an opportunity to take a memorable atmospheric photo inspired by the legendary train, at no extra charge.
