Zhastar Theater is one of the newest and most creative theaters in Kazakhstan. The theater troupe has a recognized position in Kazakh theatrical art thank to with its skill, versatility, and innovations. In just 14 years of its history, the theater won 13 Grand Prix at international and republican festivals. This proves the determination and creative purposefulness of the young team.

Zhastar Theater was founded on July 5, 2007 with the support of the Akimat of Astana. It first opened with the play “Genghis Khan” by Chingiz Aitmatov and Abish Kekilbayev (staged by Zhanysh Kulmambetov, directed by Nurkanat Zhakypbai, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan). The first Chief Manager of the newly-created theater was Gani Kulzhanov, the laureate of the Youth Union of Kazakhstan Prize, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan. In 2013-2015 the theater was headed by Aybolat Zhaudyr, and in 2015-2020 – by Yernar Dzhumatayev.

Currently, Adil Akhmetov, the Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize, is the Chief Manager.

The Artistic Director and Main Director is Nurkanat Zhakypbai, the founder of the theater and Honored Worker of Kazakhstan.

To date, the theater's repertoire includes about 50 performances. It should be noted that each of the works has won public recognition.
