The FIDE Rapid and Blitz World Team Championship 2024 will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan from 1 to 5 August 2024. After the success of the first tournament, held last year in Dusseldorf (Germany), this year's championship promises to become even bigger and better thanks to the addition of blitz competitions. This year's championship will be attended by the best chess professionals in the world, including former world champion Magnus Carlsen, who will lead the WR Team defending its title. Reigning world champions Ju Wenjun and Ding Liren will also perform, and their participation underlines the prestige of the event and promises an exciting spectacle for both players and fans. Format For 5 days, chess will be held in two formats:

Rapid: A 12-round Swiss system with a time control of 15 minutes per game plus a 10-second increment for each turn. Blitz tournament: The Blitz tournament is divided into two stages. At the first stage, the teams are divided into groups and play in a round-robin format. The top 16 teams advance to the second stage, which is the knockout stage. The time control is 3 minutes per game in increments of 2 seconds per turn. The total prize fund of the event is 350,000 euros, of which 250,000 euros are allocated for the rapid tournament and 100,000 euros for the blitz tournament. In addition to the monetary reward, members of the top three teams in each category will receive medals.
