Exhibition «Art of Traditions»
On May 17, 2024, at 4:00 PM, the National Museum will host the opening of the «Art of Traditions» international exhibition. The project includes several directions of contemporary art – video art, art installation, photography, and art performance. The exhibition will feature works by Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti, Austrian artist Norbert Brunner and video art performance by the creative group «Adyr Aspan» (Kazakhstan).
The exhibition is a joint project of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the «365ART» company (Switzerland). The project is realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Swiss company «Interprospekt Group».
Gabriele Galimberti crossed the borders of twenty-five countries to realize the photo project «In her Kitchen» presented in the exhibition. The photographer invites viewers to immerse themselves in the culinary traditions of various nations, where women share secrets of national dishes. As part of the «Art of Tradition» project, museum guests will have the opportunity to be the first to see the author's photographs, taken on the territory of Kazakhstan specifically for the anniversary event.
Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti was born in the Tuscan region of Italy, in the city of Rigutino. He began his career in photography during his college years. Today, Gabriele Galimberti's photographs are published in the most prestigious publications in the world, including National Geographic, The Sunday Times, Stern, Geo, Le Monde, La Repubblica, and Marie Claire. Among the awards received by the author are the World Press Photo Award, James Beard Foundation Award, Premio Amilcare G. Ponchielli, APP Prize, and many others. Gabriele is an official photographer for National Geographic and an official representative for the Canon brand.
The art installations by Austrian artist Norbert Brunner, «Time Pill» and «Сook Local - Act Infinite», are conceptual embodiments of the theme of national traditions and feasting, viewed through the prism of a given period of time. Despite the duration and conditions of the journey, we all ultimately find ourselves «here» and «now». The author wishes to engage in a dialogue with the viewer, offering a philosophical approach to reflecting on art, time, space, and traditions.
Austrian artist Norbert Brunner was born in the city of Hohenems, on the border with Switzerland. He currently lives and works in Vienna. A conceptual, figurative artist, A conceptual and figurative artist, he also creates art installations and is well-known internationally. The personal exhibitions of artist were held at the Claire Oliver Gallery (New York), Bäckerstrasse4 Gallery (Vienna), in Switzerland, Russia, China, and other countries.
As part of the exhibition project, the creative team ADYR-ASPAN will present a conceptual art performance «AQ Dala». The dance performed by seven participants takes place in the snowy Saryarka steppe. Dressed in all white, the dancers' movements convey traditional motifs of the land where they grew up.
