based on the short story "The Sandman" by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann

The novel by the famous romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffman, which became the basis of the plot of "Coppelia", tells about a young man who fell in love with a mechanical doll created by master Coppelius. But the creators of the ballet turned Hoffman's dark mysticism into a comedy, telling the story of a light quarrel and the subsequent reconciliation of a couple in love.
