Kenesary monument

Taking a walk along the promenade, you will certainly notice the dignifying equestrian statue, which proudly stands above the river Ishim. The monument is dedicated to a statesman a military commander Khan Kenesary.

This monument is one of the main symbols of independence and restored Kazakh statehood. Kenesary Kasymov the last Kazakh sultan, grandson of Khan Abylai and Chingizid by birth was the leader of the most massive and significant uprising for the independence of the Kazakh Khanate. Since 1841, he headed the national liberation movement of Kazakhs, seeking restoration of the Khan's power, eliminated by the Russian Imperial Government. The congress of representatives of three Kazakh zhuzes in September 1841 proclaimed Kenesary Kasymov as a Khan, restoring the Kazakh Khanate.

The construction of the monument was carried out by the sculptor Nurlan Dalban and famous architect Shota Valikhanov. The sculpture represents a bronze figure of Khan on a horse, which is installed on a granite pedestal. The total height of the monument is 11 meters (the height of the figure is 6 m., the height of the pedestal is 5 m.), and a total weight of nearly 10 tons.

The monument of Khan Kenesary is Astana city landmark and one of the most beautiful and majestic equestrian monuments of Kazakhstan.
