The play "The Cherry Orchard"

Gorky Drama Theatre

Russian Russian classic Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" on the stage of the Russian Drama Theater named after M. Gorky staged by Racha Mahataev.
The play reveals the problems of the decline of noble culture, the consequences of the abolition of serfdom, and the invasion of progressive thinking by "new people". But the historical conflict develops into the existential problem of man's pettiness and the ridiculousness of life. Therefore, the director retains Chekhov's genre definition of "The Cherry Orchard" as a comedy: the characters are funny in their petty useless actions and empty conversations.
