How to get to the city
Astana is the modern capital of Kazakhstan, conveniently located in the center of the country.
Buses

City buses No. 10 and No. 12 run from the airport to the city center and railway stations. The travel time is about 40 minutes. Fares can be paid with an Astra Plat transport card or a bank card with contactless payment.

Taxi

The fastest and most comfortable way is to take a taxi via the Yandex Go, Bolt, or inDriver apps. The trip to the city center takes 20–25 minutes, and the cost starts from 2000 tenge.


Transfer and car rental
Many hotels and travel companies offer private transfers. International services such as Hertz, Europcar, and Avis, as well as local car rental services, are also available at the airport.
Light Rail Transit (LRT)

The launch of a light rail line connecting the airport with Astana's business and central districts is planned soon. This will provide a fast and eco-friendly way to reach the city without traffic jams.

Public transport

In Astana, there are over 100 bus routes connecting all districts of the city, including the airport and railway stations. Payment can be made using an Astra Plat transport card or a bank card with contactless payment. The current schedule and routes can be found via the Transcard app, as well as in the Yandex.Go and 2GIS apps. For convenient route viewing, the mobile app Avtobys is available.

Taxi and car sharing

In Astana, official taxis can be called through the Taxi Point service. Popular taxi services include Yandex Go, Bolt, inDriver, and Maxim. A trip across the city center usually takes 10–15 minutes. Car-sharing services also operate in the city, allowing you to rent a car via a mobile app and pay only for the time used. Bicycles and electric scooters

For short trips and walks along the embankment, it is convenient to use city bicycles Astana Bike or electric scooter rental services such as Whoosh, Jet, and Ozim Scooters. Rentals are arranged through the app, and rental stations are located throughout the city center.

Light Rail Transit (LRT)

A light rail transit (LRT) system is actively being built in Astana, which will connect the airport, railway stations, and central districts of the capital. Once the project is completed, residents and visitors will be able to travel quickly and conveniently along main routes without traffic jams.

Before traveling to Astana, it is important to familiarize yourself with the visa requirements in effect for entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Visa-free regime
Citizens of more than 70 countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, South Korea, Japan, the UAE, and others, can enter Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 30 days. Citizens of EAEU countries (Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia) are allowed to stay for up to 90 days.
Visa on invitation
Citizens of countries not included in the visa-free list are required to obtain a visa through the consulates or embassies of Kazakhstan. To obtain a visa, an invitation from the host party (a travel agency, hotel, individual, or organization) and a completed online application through the Visa.mfa.kz portal are required.
Electronic visa (eVisa)

Travelers from certain countries can apply for an electronic visa (eVisa) without visiting a consulate. The eVisa is available for entry through Kazakhstan's international airports, including Nursultan Nazarbayev Airport. It is enough to submit an application online, pay the fee, and receive the visa by email.

Registration upon arrival
Foreign citizens arriving in Kazakhstan are not required to undergo separate registration if their stay does not exceed the established limit. For longer visits, the host party (hotel or landlord) must notify the migration service through the egov.kz portal.

Banknotes and coins
Banknotes in circulation are 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, and 20,000 tenge, as well as coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 tenge.
Currency exchange

Dollars, euros, or other currencies can be exchanged at banks, exchange offices, and the airport. Exchange rates are roughly the same, but it is more profitable to exchange in the city center.
